Knitting wimple, over and over

Well, I’ve finished the wimple, and I am just not sure how I feel about it.  This is usually how I am when I finish a project.  The swancho was such a treat because I loved it all the way through and loved it when it was done.  No hesitation.  This feeling about the wimple is much more true to form.  If I were to do it over, I would definitely change some things.  One thing I would change for sure is the way I did the bind off.  I did just my normal ‘knit one, pass last stitch over, all the way around’ bind off, which looks good but ended up too tight to wear the cowl down over my shoulders.  Even doing the stitches very loosely, it is too tight.  I know there is a stretchier bind off, I’ve done it before.  It uses more yarn, but I can’t remember what it’s called or where I used it.  I’m sure a Google search will help me with that.  There are tons of videos and on-line help for knitting stitches and techniques; you can find pretty much anything you need.

The other thing is a bit trickier.  I don’t love the whole middle design element.  I don’t love how the eyelets are for the diamond pattern and the rows of eyelets.  This would be a total design change, and would mean pretty much taking it all apart and starting over.  Right now I both want to do that and don’t want to do that.  The very top is OK, the bottom is great, the bind-off is my fault, but that middle!  What am I going to do?
