The first mandala is sort of in place, and I like it a lot. Right now it is just pinned gently to the wall, to get an idea of how it might look. I’m not entirely sure what I like so much about it, but I do like the roundness, the neutral all-one-color-ness, the texture and intricacy, and I think all that together is what’s so appealing. Of course, for the space, I am planning on making more. How many more, I am not sure Right now I have seven different patterns, and three neutral threads to work with. I don’t think I will fill up the space solid, but who knows. I might put larger ones on the bottom and drift up with smaller ones, more spaced out. That might look a little like snow, but could be pretty.
As far as how to really hang them, I think I might just stiffen the motif so it can hang on it’s own. I’ve seen crocheted doilies suspended or tied into hoops and rings, but the ring becomes a big part of the design, and they look more like dream catchers. I like dream catchers, I have them in other places in the house, but for this application I think I like them free and on their own.
I have, but haven’t tried yet. Aleene’s Stiffen Quik fabric stiffening spray. I think I will start with that and see how it goes. I will let you know! I suppose I could add a ring later, if I decide I need it for support or aesthetics. So many ideas; let’s try them all.
