On November 1, 2017, the Winter CAL officially began. What that means, for this non-mysterious CAL, is that the designer put an updated link on my purchased pattern in Ravelry that includes a photo-tutorial for every round in part one, which is rounds 1-7. This is super helpful, because the pattern itself is written, not charted, and has a picture of the finished doily, but not a picture after each round. During the CAL with the extra pictures, you can check your progress each step of the way. Any tricky stitches can be figured out immediately. And if you have questions or problems, you can post to the group in Facebook and get help right away. I don’t know how many people are doing the CAL, but there are something like 3,000 people in the group, so someone will help with any question!
Just FYI, in a mystery CAL or KAL, on the start date and every subsequent update, a part of the pattern would be published. Each part gets added until the whole pattern has been released and the project can be completed. In this CAL for the pattern Winter, we have the whole pattern up front, and we know what it looks like in the end; the updates are the photo-tutorials that are being released sequentially, until the whole pattern has been worked.
Here is my Winter, in Ocean, rounds 1-7. This is the end of Part 1. The colors are pretty, but you can see how quickly they change. It is harder to appreciate the texture and patterns of the stitches themselves. I am not sure what I think about it. I think I’ll keep going, to see if I can decide as it develops.
